FAQ

Does FinPal connect to my broker automatically?

Section titled “Does FinPal connect to my broker automatically?”

Not yet. Today, you bring data in by uploading a statement you export yourself, or by entering transactions by hand — FinPal never asks for or stores a broker login. A more direct connection for Interactive Brokers (via a Flex Query token, not a login) is on the roadmap; see IBKR Reconciliation for what’s available today.

Yes. Everything you add — portfolios, transactions, imported statements — is scoped to your account only; there’s no cross-account access. Your login session uses a secure, HTTP-only cookie that can’t be read by scripts or leaked across sites.

Yes. Trades and balances in different currencies are converted into your chosen display currency using the exchange rate on the day they happened, so your totals are accurate rather than added together as if every currency were the same. See Portfolios & Transactions.

What happens if my broker isn’t recognized?

Section titled “What happens if my broker isn’t recognized?”

Use the Mapping Wizard to teach FinPal your broker’s file layout once — every future upload from that broker will import automatically after that.

Yes. Nothing imported is locked in place — you can edit or remove any transaction afterward, the same as one you typed in by hand.

Can I track things that aren’t investments?

Section titled “Can I track things that aren’t investments?”

Yes — property, savings, vehicles, or anything else you own can be added as a manual asset, and it’s included in your overall net-worth total alongside your investment portfolios.
