Portfolios & Transactions
A transaction is any event that changes what you hold or what cash you have: a buy, a sell, a dividend payment, a deposit, or a withdrawal. Together, your transactions are the single record FinPal builds everything else from — your dashboard, allocation, and dividend history are all just different views of the same underlying transactions.
Adding a transaction by hand
Section titled “Adding a transaction by hand”Open a portfolio and add a transaction directly: choose the type (buy, sell, dividend, deposit, withdrawal), the security or cash amount involved, and the date. This is useful for filling gaps, or for accounts you’d rather not import.
Editing or removing a transaction
Section titled “Editing or removing a transaction”Nothing is locked once it’s saved. If you spot a mistake — wrong date, wrong quantity — open the transaction and correct it. Your dashboard and every other view update immediately to reflect the fix.
Multiple currencies
Section titled “Multiple currencies”If you invest in more than one currency, FinPal converts each transaction into your chosen display currency using the exchange rate on the day it happened, so your totals are accurate rather than just summed as if every currency were equal.
Stock splits and similar events
Section titled “Stock splits and similar events”When a company you hold splits its stock, FinPal adjusts your share count and cost basis to match automatically — you don’t need to add a correcting transaction yourself.
